Vintage Art

There are so many varieties of vintage art and places to view and find vintage art.
I was recently at a craft fair where there were all sorts of vintage art. They were selling posters, as well as jewelry. The vintage art jewelry was particularly interesting, as it was made out of vintage art wallpaper. The designer would cut squares of vintage art wallpaper and place them into pendants, with different vintage art on either side of the pendant. She also made vintage art rings by using the wallpaper as well. People had been lining up, anticipating her arrival as she had been at this fair several years in a row and had become very popular.
You can find vintage art all over the world. There are stores that sell vintage art posters, prints, and collectible items. One of the most amazing things about vintage art is that whether it be posters, post cards, flyers, political propaganda, it can take you back to a different time; even a different century. You can find vintage art in museums, galleries, exhibitions, and even antique shops. I have found some really amazing vintage art in antique shops in New York City. If you can find a piece like a pot, jug or sculpture at the right price it can make a great home accessory that is sure to be a conversation piece. If you are good at picture framing, you could buy quite an affordable print, choose the appropriate style of frame, and end up with another wonderful decoration.
If you are looking for vintage art online, you will find that some vintage art can be purchased or even downloaded in the form of computer clip art. This is particularly nice if you want to use the vintage art to create your own items, such as stationary, business cards or greeting cards.
You may also find other items online, as opposed to going "antiquing". As a fan of vintage art, I have been able to search online and find items for sale, such as posters, cards, china and crystal; as well as music memorabilia such as album covers, pins; even clothing in the form of vintage t-shirts!
Besides purchasing items online, you may also be able to find the nearest and most upcoming art show or gallery exhibit featuring vintage items. Larger cities may have museums and galleries with a calendar of events; but don't forget some small towns may have the rarest of the rare!
What is vintage art?
It is difficult to describe vintage art exactly because the term
'vintage' really just refers to a period of time in which the art was
produced. However the term is often associated with art produced in the
first half of the 20th century, including art deco, modernism, cubism,
and other movements around this time. Vintage art can be expressed many
different ways. As already stated, you may find vintage art in jewelry
or in posters. It may also come in the form of glass or crystal on
display in a gallery or museum. Similar to the posters, I also located
some vintage art in the form of stemware in several antique shops. You
would be surprised at the variety of things you can find there. I have
also seen some amazing pieces of vintage art that had been created
using tiles; as in mosaics. Though many pieces can be dated to a
certain time period or era, sometimes the term vintage art is used to
describer much older pieces.
Museums and galleries
Museums and galleries are a good place to visit if you want to see vintage
art. Some of these pieces are extremely rare and expensive; although
many are not even for sale.
Some museums have the glass and crystal, while others have paintings,
statues or even instruments that are considered vintage. Other museums
may cater to music and would also have vintage posters and album
covers; maybe even magazines.
Vintage art is also sometimes referred to as retro.
Interesting and Obscure?
Some people refer to vintage art as obscure or interesting. This is
also true although it is a matter of taste and opinion. While browsing
in an antique store, I also came across a tattoo parlor, specializing
in vintage tattoos. One of the things that people often love the most about vintage art is
that it is not only interesting, but original. Whether it be the
mixtures of patterns, colors or shapes of a painting, poster or even a
tattoo, or the interesting curves and lines of a statue.
