Ever need a pen and you can't find one? Did the spatula get misplaced again? Sounds like you need a utensil holder! One of the great unsung heroes in life, the utensil holder keeps all the small things in the house organized. Smaller utensil holders are good for work and school so the pencils don't go rolling around on your desk. The larger ones are nice for the kitchen to hold spoons or tongs for cooking.

There are so many types to consider that you almost need a utensil holder to hold your utensil holders! There are rotating holders, divided holders, rounded, squared, colored, and colorless. Not to mention there are several different materials to choose from as well like metal, ceramic, stainless steel, clay, wooden and plastic. Every aspect of the utensil holder will give the area it's in a different look, but appearance is not the only important thing. Utensil holders are designed for different tasks - you wouldn't need a pencil sharpener built in to a kitchen utensil holder.

Size is important when picking out a utensil holder because you wouldn't want something too large that swallows up your pens or too small that will hardly hold a ladle.

Kitchen utensil holders are usually much larger and include one or two dividers for separating spoons from other tools. They'll sometime spin to allow easier access to the required tool and sit about 7-11 inches high. Kitchen utensil holders are often stainless steel to prevent perminent marks from splattering sauces or oil from the stove. It makes them much easier to clean, but could give the kitchen a cold unattached look. A ceramic kitchen utensil holder however gives the kitchen a more homely look, while it's still easy to clean off.

A utensil holder for a desk, an office area or at school tends to be smaller, with a single compartment that is grated. The grate allows you to better see into the holder, just incase you're about to grab the wrong colored pen. They're usually only 4-6 inches tall, have one compartment and are just a round cylinder.

Artists, Architects and Drafters usually have utensil holders as well. They tend to be large, multi-compartmented and metal to allow the artist to keep several different types of tools separate from one another, but still accessable.
Utensil holders are all around beneficial, holding everything you need for the kitchen or office in one container. They're portable, stable, washable and simple.

So there you have it -  a quick glimpse into the life of the utensil holder. Hopefully in future you won't be so dismissive and unappreciative of our compact yet voluminous friends!
