The Lowdown On Weight Loss Tablets
59With more than half of the American population overweight, and many of
those obese, shedding excess body weight has become an obsession in
television, magazines, and other media outlets. There isn't a magazine
cover on the stands that doesn't seem to have a weight loss and fitness
section. In a microwave society, everyone is looking for a quick fix.
Weight loss tablets have consumed an entire industry, with commercials
and advertising claiming miracle results with no change in diet or
exercise.
There are endless studies done by researchers that insist on possible weight loss by various products. Out of the hundreds, if not thousands, of weight loss tablets available, most private studies seem to point to appetite suppressants and metabolic boosters as the most effective weight loss supplements. Those who take these types of weight loss tablets seem to lose the most weight, however, when they combine them with diet and exercise.
On the flip side, there is a host of dietary supplements that claim to have weight loss properties, but in actuality, have no effect on weight. Many of these weight loss tablets follow fad diets, claiming that a special ingredient will melt away fat, and burn extra calories. Unfortunately, fads come and go from year to year, and there is always a new weight loss pill making extraordinary claims with less than extraordinary results.
Many of the weight loss tablets on the market make claims that have not been investigated by the FDA. The only proof for their claims are scientific studies that are performed privately, and are often biased to the weight loss tablet of interest. As it stands, there is only one over the counter weight loss supplement that is approved by the FDA. Alli is considered safe and effective, when combined with diet and exercise, and encourages proper nutrition for the user. Though it works, Alli is not for the morbidly obese, as it has only been shown effective in increasing the speed of weight loss.
Those that suffer from extreme weight gain should consult their doctor. There are many prescription drugs that are proven in providing weight loss relief to those who need it. Whether prescription or over the counter, it is wise to consult with a physician before making any major changes in diet or excercise.
