Trends are all the same, be it in fashion, music, or food. They come, they go, and sometimes they comeback. One of the most recent trends in music is known as "Nu Rave," and is fast becoming popular with a very wide audience. Like most styles of music, Nu Rave has it's own subculture, in which fashion, attitude and music all blend into one. Let's discuss a few aspects of the emerging Nu Rave subculture.

The music itself is not much different than any rave music of the past. Nu rave is more characterized by the culture rather than the music. Nu ravers are following on from the rave movement of the late 90s, which was quite 'organic' at times. Ravers in the noughties have some of the same philosophy but are also characterized by the use of technology. There is much more emphasis on neon and bright outfits and other unusual fashions. Nu rave is sometimes criticised by older, 'jaded' ravers for this reason, but at the end of the day nu ravers are just out to have fun with their friends. The sense of community among ravers is unchanged in nu rave. While most is experienced in a live setting, there are plenty of artists who are releasing compilation cds and music online.

As far as the subculture goes, the fashion is almost as important as the music. "Nu Ravers" tend to wear clothing that is bright, flashy and gaudy in every way possible, yet also light and airy, as dancing for hours in tight, heavy clothing is quite a challenge in itself. With Nu Rave clothing, the brighter and more unique the better, which is what attracts a lot of people to this subculture. It is the complete opposite of musical subculture such as metal, where everything is dark and morbid. Nu Rave is flashy and optimistic.

Nu Ravers also tend to wear sunglasses to the events they go to, as it fits the image and the clothing that they wear. They are also useful at 'after-parties' for those who have stayed up dancing all night. These sunglasses are usually tinted very darkly and have bright colored frames. When put together with the clothing, it can sure make a fashion statement. Ornate jewelry is also a part of the Nu Rave subculture, as many Nu Ravers wear all kinds of unusual accessories, earings, long necklaces and many bracelets at a time. The more unique the look, the better!
