Great Home Remedies For Acne

So it’s Thursday night, the shops are shut and you just found a pimple rearing its ugly head. Not good if you have a big Friday night coming up! What to do? Well there are a few things most households have on hand- toothpaste, yoghurt, honey, lemons, bi-carbonate of soda or even, in a pitch of desperation, methylated spirits. Any of these can be effective home remedies for acne in a pinch.

If your skin is looking a bit stressed out and prone to break outs, you can make a good face mask using a tablespoon of yoghurt with a tablespoon of honey. Wash your face with a mild face cleanser then spread the yoghurt and honey mix all over your face and neck. Leave it on for ten or fifteen minutes before rinsing with warm water. You can also add some crushed oats to the yoghurt and honey for an extra calming effect. This one is great for people who are into more natural beauty treatments or who have sensitive skin. You can even lick your lips if you get hungry!

Lemons can also be used if you break out in pimples on your back and shoulders. Rinse a face cloth under warm (or as hot as you can stand it) water and wring it out. Place the hot cloth on the affected area and leave for a few minutes. This is just to open up the pores, so you could also try the following treatment just after you get out of the shower. Cut a lemon into quarters and lightly run it over the affected area. It will sting for a moment but it’s killing all the bacteria. Allow it to dry and make sure your bedding and shirts are cleaned regularly to help the clearing process. Another use for lemons is to make an ointment with a mixture of bi-carb of soda and lemon juice, and apply this to a problem spot, leaving it on overnight to help dry out the area.

If you do use any of these treatments, make sure to follow a good skin care regime and keep your skin moisturised with a good facial moisturiser.
